The Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania (LRTK) is currently assessing a publicly discussed case concerning the compliance of content published on the YouTube platform with requirements related to the protection of minors.

The LRTK received an inquiry regarding whether publicly available content on YouTube complies with legal provisions governing the protection of minors.

The content under assessment contained visual material of a sexual nature. Although parts of the video had been partially censored, the faces visible in the recordings could still have allowed individuals to be identified.

According to the LRTK, content of this nature cannot be made accessible to minors without appropriate labeling and access restriction measures. Under the current legal framework, information that may have a negative effect on minors must be clearly marked, and access to such content must be restricted through technical measures.

“Content creators and distributors have a responsibility to assess the nature of the information they publish publicly and ensure that content potentially harmful to minors is properly labeled and subject to appropriate restrictions,” the LRTK stated.

The Commission is currently evaluating whether the specific content complies with the provisions of the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public of the Republic of Lithuania and the Law on the Protection of Minors Against the Detrimental Effect of Public Information.

If violations are identified, measures предусмотренные by law may be applied.
