With some delay on 14 January 2021 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania adopted amendments to the LR Law on the Provision of Information to the Public, which have finally transposed the provisions of the revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AMSD), which was adopted by the European Council back in November 2018. The amendments will come into force from 1 February 2021.
In connection with the transposition of the revised AMSD, amendments to the LR Code of Administrative Offenses and the LR Law on the Protection of Minors from the Negative Impact of Public Information were adopted at the same time.
The new amendments foresee a separate legal regime for the providers of video sharing platform services; better protection of minors against harmful content in the online world; more flexible regulation regarding the total television advertising time and teleshopping spots; ban on advertising electronic cigarettes and many more.
